Mark Cyr - 2015
Mark is well known in the Phoenix area as one of the leading technicians when it comes to above ground spas and is consistently sought out for his knowledge in the pool industry. He is continuously in the process of furthering his education in the industry and always has since starting his own company, Qualichem, in the mid- 1970s.
Along with running his own pool service and repair business, Mark is also the Manager/Operator of the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center at Arizona State University, the home of the ASU swimming and diving team. It goes without saying that to run a facility like that takes a great deal of knowledge and know how. He has always offered to anyone in Region 8 a tour of the facility and a lesson on how an aquatic center of that size works. Many members have taken him up on his offer and have walked away not only very impressed but much more educated after the tour. Mark’s professionalism can never be questioned.
Mark has served as Chapter President and Region 8 Director twice. Mark’s contributions to IPSSA are unparalleled, from being one of the founding members of the East Valley Chapter, a founding member of Region 8, and most notably a founding member of the Desert Pool and Spa Show. Mark was there at the beginning to help with the start of the show and continues to this day with the running, planning and success of Region 8.
When it comes to helping others in the service industry and IPSSA, Mark is considered the “Yoda” of Region 8. He has mentored many pool professionals in the Phoenix area. Mark has also employed many young pool professionals and has worked with them as they go out on their own to start their own businesses. He has always been available to chapter and region members for difficult problems out in the field and always helps without ever making the person asking for help feel like he is bothering him.
Mark is a quiet humble man who has done so much for IPSSA and the pool industry.
